![]() Dominican High School is, first and foremost, a high school that prepares students for college. In fact, 98% of our students pursue higher education and are admitted to some of the most respected schools in the United States. Our faculty is skilled in the art of teaching; many of them hold advanced academic degrees. Everything at Dominican equips students to succeed. Math and writing laboratories provide assistance as needed. A unique Writing-Across-the-Curriculum program emphasizes clear communication skills in all disciplines and prepares students for advanced placement in college. Dominican recognizes, however, that there is life beyond college. Our curriculum will help students acquire lifelong learning skills and the practical application of information, beyond memorization. Dominican's curriculum challenges and stimulates students to excel academically and to develop a love for learning. Grading System The grading system is as follows: A (4.0) = 93-100; B (3.0) = 85-92; C (2.0) = 77-84; D (1.0) = 70-76; I = Incomplete; F (0.0) = 0-69 (Failure). Class Rank Class rank is not published. It is available to individual juniors or seniors upon written request for college or scholarship applications. Graduation Requirements The Dominican High School curriculum offers a full four years of college-preparatory work for students. Students must complete a minimum of 26 academic credits to graduate. These credits include the following:
Advanced Curriculum Courses Qualified students may enroll in advanced curriculum courses throughout their four years at Dominican. Advanced curriculum courses are available in the following subject areas: Computer Programming English French Mathematics Science Social Studies Spanish Religious Studies In addition to advanced curriculum courses, students may prepare to take the Advanced Placement (A.P.) exams for advanced college placement in English, Foreign Language, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Computer Programming. International Studies In their future, students will deal with others from many different nationalities and backgrounds. Dominican prepares students for the realities of tomorrow through its own diversity and by fostering international opportunities. International educational exchanges have occurred in connection with students studying French, Spanish, German and theatre. With all of these programs, Dominican students spend most of their time in educational settings while overseas.
